HOPI EAR CANDLING
During the session you may experience a gentle heat and a pleasant crackling sound. The rising air column inside the hollow candle creates a very mild suction action at the base, which helps to loosen compacted earwax. At the same time, the beeswax and other ingredients are vaporized, creating a massage-like effect around the eardrum.
Each candle will take about 10 minutes to burn to a safety marker line, at which time it will be gently removed from the outer ear and safely extinguished in water. The client will be asked to turn over and the process is repeated on the other ear.
This treatment induces a pleasant feeling of warmth and a balance of pressure in the ears, forehead and sinuses. It can be soothing and helpful for earache, headache, vertigo, ear noise and stress. The treatment may also spontaneously cause freer nasal breathing and an improved sense of smell. Furthermore, the whole ceremony brings a wonderful relaxation, a deep sense of security and a feeling of happiness, which is seldom experienced.
Anyone who is receiving medical treatment for any ear condition should always consult their doctor first. Some clients may experience headaches or light popping in the ears after treatment but this usually does not last long.
Ear candling has been criticized for its lack of safety and dangers of fire. I can’t deny that when using fire there is always a certain risk of burns but if you are careful and completely aware of it you can avoid all these risks.
The following safety measures have to be taken when doing a Hopi Ear Candling treatment:
- Never do the treatment on yourself
- Cover the recipient face and hair to avoid burns
- Hold the candle all the time to avoid the candle to fall down
- Always use good quality candles with in-built filters and extinguishing stop marks
